Free resources for managing medication
New FREE resources to assist people in managing their medicines are now available.
NPS MedicineWise, an independent, not-for-profit and evidence-based health organisation that aims to improve health or drug literacy have released two resources that can be used by people who take medication, their families and carers.
MedicineWise App
This is a free App that you can use to keep track of medicines and access important health information any time and anywhere, especially in emergencies. This initiative is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health.
Using this app, you can:
- Create a medicine list by scanning your medicine barcodes or searching the Australian medicines database.
- Record important health info such as medical conditions, allergies and health professional contact details.
- Set reminders for medication and doctor’s appointments.
- Access information to learn more about your medicines.
- Share your medicine lists and usage reports with healthcare professionals via email.
- Store, graph and share your test results (eg, blood pressure, weight).
- Create separate profiles for those in your care to manage medicines and health information for others.
- Store notes and questions to ask your doctor.
You can download the free app from Google Play or the App Store.
Medicines Line (1300 MEDICINE)
NPS MedicineWise, in collaboration with Healthdirect Australia, created 'Medicines Line’, a free telephone service that provides timely, independent, accurate and evidenced-based medicines information to help consumers, carers and practitioners about medicines. This includes prescription, over-the-counter and complementary (herbal, ‘natural’, vitamin and mineral) medicines.
You can call 1300 MEDICINE (1300 633 424) for free from anywhere in Australia.
Hours of operation: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm AEST (excluding NSW public holidays).
